Abstract
Diarrhea is a symptom of digestive tract infections caused by various types of bacteria, viruses and parasites. Infection can spread through contamination of food or drinking water and poor environmental hygiene. One of the causes of death in toddlers, or children under five years is diarrhea. Treating diarrhea apart from using pharmacotherapy techniques, there is also complementary therapy that can be used, namely by giving honey. Honey has been known as a traditional medicine for various diseases since ancient times, but honey has not been widely used in modern medicine because of the discovery of antibiotics. The aim of this nursing care is to analyze the effect of honey therapy on reducing the frequency of defecation and dehydration in children with diarrhea. The samples used were managed patients and resume patients with diarrhea. Honey therapy is given 3 times a day, namely at 07.00 WIB, 15.00 WIB and 21.00 WIB. Honey is given in 5 ml mixed with 5 ml zinc. The results showed that there was a decrease in the frequency of defecation by an average of 1x/day after being given honey therapy. Implementing this intervention has proven to be useful in reducing the frequency of defecation and dehydration in children every day. Nurses can apply this method as a non-pharmacological therapy to help reduce the frequency of defecation and dehydration in children.
