Abstract

Patients undergoing gynecological surgery generally experience pain in the incision area postoperatively, which impacts comfort and disrupts daily activities due to limited physical mobility and sleep disturbances. Jacobson's Progressive Muscle Relaxation Technique therapy is one of the non-pharmacological techniques that can be applied to manage acute pain, improve sleep quality, and enhance activity tolerance in women who have undergone gynecological surgery. Jacobson's Progressive Muscle Relaxation Technique therapy is administered on the second and third days post-operation for two consecutive days, with a frequency of therapy every three shifts (morning, afternoon, and evening) for approximately 30 minutes per session. Pain intensity is measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) instrument, sleep quality is assessed using The Groningen Sleep Quality Scale, and activity tolerance is evaluated using the Activity Tolerance Questionnaire. Pre-test and post-test measurements are conducted on the second day after surgery before therapy and on the fourth day after receiving therapy for two consecutive days. The results of the study show that in managed patients after the intervention, the pain scale decreased from 8 to 4, sleep quality improved from a score of 12 to 5, and activity tolerance increased from 11 to 24. Conclusion: The pain scale, sleep quality, and activity tolerance demonstrate significant improvement after the intervention. Therefore, Jacobson's Progressive Muscle Relaxation Technique therapy is effective in reducing pain, improving sleep quality, and enhancing activity tolerance in women who have undergone gynecological surgery.
