Abstract
Corruption is one of the main problems that Indonesia faces today. Singapore is one of the favorite places for corruptors to hide. In 2007, Indonesia has signed an extradition treaty with Singapore. However, this agreement was not ratified by the House of Representatives, due to Singapore's requirement that it be paralleled with the DCA (Defense Cooperation Agreement). The House of Representatives considered that the defense agreement could disadvantage Indonesia. Even so, in 2022 Indonesia re-signed the extradition treaty and it was officially ratified into law. This research exists to find out what drives the Indonesian government to resign and ratify the agreement. The theories and concepts used in this research are international treaties, extradition treaties, and also the Rational Actor Model Theory by Graham T. Allison. This research will use qualitative research methods. This research also uses an analytical descriptive approach in an effort to explain why Indonesia re signed and ratified the extradition treaty with Singapore in 2022. The results of this research show that this agreement is aligned with Indonesia's national interests in efforts to arrest fleeing corruption offenders and return the assets of their corruption proceeds abroad. The existence of this agreement also has a deterrence effect on corruptors who want to escape. The reason it was finally ratified by the House of Representatives was because there was a renegotiation by the Indonesian government, so that there were changes in several points that were of concern to the House of Representatives. In addition, after the renegotiation, this extradition treaty provides more benefits than the costs for Indonesia. Of course, this is a positive thing for the House of Representatives to ratify into a law.
