Abstract

Food availability is one thing that is important and needs to be given more attention. Rice is a leading food commodity in Indonesia because people in various regions have made rice their staple food. Rice production in North Sumatra from 2018 - 2021 has continued to decline. Meanwhile, North Sumatra has a large total population in Indonesia. The condition of the large population, rice production in this province needs to be considered and needs to be continuously increased so that the population's food needs can be fulfilled and food vulnerability and scarcity do not occur. This study aims to determine the effect of harvested land area, farmer labor, and population on rice availability in the Regency / City of North Sumatra. This study uses samples in the Regency / City of North Sumatra Province in 2018 - 2022. Panel data analysis is the analysis method used and uses the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) as the best model developed into Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS). This study found that the size of harvested land, farmer labor, and population simultaneously and partially had a significant effect on rice availability.
