Abstract

In recent decades, ASEAN has experienced significant economic growth, but also faced serious challenges in preserving the environment. Amidst these dynamics, it is important to understand the extent to which economic growth, renewable energy consumption, industrial value added, and natural resource rent have an impact on carbon emissions in 10 ASEAN countries. This study uses a quantitative approach with panel data regression analysis fixed effect model for the period 2010-2020. Data was collected from the World Bank. The results show that Gross Domestic Product per capita has a significant positive influence on increasing carbon dioxide emissions in ASEAN. On the other hand, increasing the consumption of renewable energy is effective in reducing emissions. In addition, sustainable management of natural resources is also effective in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in ASEAN. Meanwhile, industrial value added has an insignificant negative effect. This study implies that policies that support the use of renewable energy and better natural resource management can be important strategies for ASEAN countries to reduce carbon emissions and achieve sustainable development.
