Abstract
Background: Lipoma is one of the highest incidence tumor categories within the adipocytic soft tissue tumor types and can be found in any part of the body. Gender and body mass index are known to be predisposing factors involved in lipoma incidence. This study aims to determine the relationship of lipoma incidence based on gender and body mass index with lipoma histopathology profile in the form of size and location in patients at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto in 2022-2023. Methods: This study is an observational analytic with a cross sectional approach. The research data came from the medical records of lipoma patients at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto for the period January 2022-September 2023 using the total population sampling method. There were 62 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Bivariate analysis using Chi-square test. Results: This study shows that there is no significant relationship between gender and body mass index with lipoma size (p = 0.799 and p = 0.950), there is no significant relationship between gender and body mass index with lipoma location (p = 0.390 and p = 0.480). Conclusion: Lipomas are most prevalent in men and women, especially those with overweight and obese BMI categories. The most common lipoma size is ≤5 cm and is located mostly in the extremities, especially the upper extremities. Predisposing factors may be involved, although there was no significant association between gender and body mass index on the histopathologic profile of lipomas. Keywords: lipoma, size, location, gender, body mass index (BMI)
