Abstract

High levels of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in diabetes patients can cause infertility because increased blood sugar results in an increase in free radicals which is characterized by defects in the mitochondrial membrane of Leydig cells and disruption of the seminiferous tubules, thereby disrupting spermatogenesis. Infertility is a health problem that arises due to fertility disorders. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of breadfruit leaf extract on the morphology of spermatozoa in male diabetic rats. Research Design True experimental with post-test only control group design. Samples of 30 male Wistar rats, weighing ± 200 grams and aged 2-3 months were taken using simple random sampling from the UNPAD Bandung farm. The rats were converted into k- (standard drinking feed), K+ (Streptozocin), and P1, P2, P3 {breadfruit leaf extract dose 200, 400, 800 (mg/KgBW)}, with 28 days treatment. Mice were anesthetized with Ketamine The results of the One-Way ANOVA test showed an effect of giving breadfruit leaf extract on spermatozoa morphology in male diabetic rats (p=0.000). The Bonferroni post-hoc test of administering breadfruit leaf extract at doses of 200, 400, and 800 mg/KgBW was significant compared to the positive control (p=0.000; 0.000; 0.000). Breadfruit leaf extract can improve the morphological quality of spermatozoa in male diabetic rats.
