Abstract

Arisan is an activity that is carried out face-to-face, but currently arisan has developed, namely that it can be carried out online, that is, without any direct meetings with the members. This research aims to determine consumer protection for online social gatherings based on law, the implementation of which has uncertain promises. The absence of face-to-face meetings makes implementing online social gatherings a high risk. Online social gathering members who are harmed should report it and receive protection. However, most of them just wait for the perpetrator's good intentions because they know the legal process is long. This research discusses legal protection for consumers against the uncertain promises of online social gathering business actors and the responsibility of online social gathering business actors for breaking those promises. This research uses normative legal methods with secondary data obtained from literature studies, namely primary legal materials in the form of UUPK, as well as secondary legal materials in the form of books, research results, and scientific articles, as well as tertiary legal materials in the form of dictionaries. The data that has been collected is then analysed using descriptive analysis techniques. so as to answer problems in accordance with the law. The results of the research show that consumer legal protection for the promises of online social gathering business actors is not yet guaranteed to be stated in Article 9 and Article 12 of the UUPK. In the UUPK, there are also consumer rights and obligations of business actors that must be fulfilled. Apart from that, the form of accountability for online social gathering business actors who break their promises must be to carry out compensation in accordance with Article 19 UUPK. The public must be more vigilant about online social gathering activities, business actors must fulfil their responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws, and the government needs to review special regulations for online social gatherings.
