Abstract
Objective The research objective is to understand the usage patterns of antiepileptic drugs in epilepsy patients at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital. Method The study utilizes a descriptive research method with a cross-sectional design. The population includes all epilepsy patients at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) in Central Jakarta during the 2022 period, selected through total sampling that meets inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results The study involved 198 epilepsy patients, mostly males (50.5%, n=100), with the majority in the age group of 15-64 years (63.1%, n=125). The majority of patients received treatment at the outpatient installation (80.0%, n=160), and generalized seizures were the most common seizure type (53.5%, n=106). Most patients underwent kidney and liver function monitoring (81.3%, n=161), and the majority did not experience Steven Johnson syndrome after antiepileptic drug (AED) administration (97.5%, n=193). The majority of female epilepsy patients were not pregnant (86.7%, n=85), and most patients at RSPAD became seizure-free after therapy (89.9%, n=178). Conclusion The conclusion of this research is that generalized seizures are the most common seizure type, and the monotherapy treatment pattern is the most prevalent among antiepileptic drug (OAE) therapies. The specific OAE given as monotherapy is the valproate group administered orally (15.2%, n=30). Meanwhile, the most commonly administered intravenous monotherapy is diazepam IV. The polytherapy treatment pattern involves a combination of phenytoin and valproate drugs, constituting 20.7% (n=41) of cases. Keywords: Epilepsy, Anti epilepsy drugs, therapy
