Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of using ondansetron single and the combination of ondansetron with dexamethasone in preventing PONV in patients undergoing general anesthesia at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Jakarta. This is an observational analytical study with a cross sectional method on 120 medical record data of patients who received general anesthesia at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital for the period January - December 2022. Analysis of this research data used the Chi-Square test. 69 subjecst (57.5%) were aged 26-44 years, 71 subjecst (59.2%) were female, 77 subjects (64.2%) had ASA category I and 41 subjects (34.2%) underwent a laparotomy procedure, 79 subjects had no history of smoking (62.8%) PONV occurred in 45 subjects (37.5%), namely 10 people (16.7%) in patients who received prophylactic therapy in the form of ondansetron and dexamethasone and in 35 (58.3%) patients who received single therapy ondansetron experienced PONV. The incidence of PONV is lower in patients with prophylaxis in the form of ondansetron and dexamethasone than in patients with prophylaxis single ondansetron.
