Abstract

Supermarkets are places where consumers come to buy daily necessities using trolleys and pay for them. With so many consumers coming to supermarkets, there are several problems experienced by consumers, such as long queues at supermarket cashiers. The long queue at the supermarket checkout is caused by shopping items that have to be scanned one by one, therefore consumers have to wait until all the shopping items have been scanned. Furthermore, consumers often don't pay much attention to the total shopping price, resulting in exceeding the budget that consumers have prepared. To solve these problems, a system is needed that reduces the length of queues at supermarket checkouts and provides notifications to consumers if the total price of shopping exceeds the prepared budget. This system is designed in the form of a tool that is placed on a trolley using hardware and software. This tool uses an ESP32 as a control center, RFID as a product detector, an infrared sensor to detect items that are added or subtracted, an LCD to display the total product price and products that are added or subtracted, a keypad to type how much budget is brought, a buzzer that will sound for each item scanned and as a notification if the total shopping price exceeds the budget, a bluetooth mini thermal printer to print receipts, and Arduino IDE software to create programs using C++ language. Test results show that this trolley can enter the budget by typing on the keypad, can add and subtract items. The LCD can display the name, price and total price of the product being read. If the total price of shopping exceeds the budget, the system will provide a notification in the form of sound and writing on the LCD. After shopping, consumers can print a receipt by pressing the 'C' button on the keypad.
