Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) refers to the irreversible decline in kidney function that develops gradually over time. Hyperlipidemia can influence the progression of CKD as it is one of the predisposing factors for diabetic nephropathy with histopathological features such as Interstitial Inflammation and Interstitial Fibrosis and Tubular Atrophy (IFTA). Flavonoids and alkaloids are secondary metabolites found in the leaves of Bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) that have therapeutic effects in reducing serum creatinine levels and inhibiting the progression of IFTA and Interstitial Inflammation. Objective: This study aims to determine the potential of Bidara leaf extract (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) on the histopathological appearance of the kidneys in high-lipid diet-induced Wistar rats. Method: A true experimental research method with a randomized post-test only control group design was employed, using 30 Wistar rats induced with a high-fat diet, then divided into 5 groups consisting of 2 control groups and 3 treatment groups with Bidara Leaf Extract at doses of 0.2 gr/kgBW, 0.4 gr/kgBW, 0.8 gr/kgBW. The Kruskal-Wallis Analysis and Post-Hoc Mann Whitney Test were used for analysis. Results: Bivariate analysis results obtained showed significance (P-value < 0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that Bidara Leaf Extract (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) inhibits the progression of IFTA and Interstitial Inflammation lesions and has therapeutic effects comparable to orlistat if the given dose is adequate. Keywords: Bidara Leaf, Orlistat, Histopathology, IFTA, Interstitial Inflammation.
