Abstract
One central point in the macroeconomics domain is the quantity of money in circulation, where changes in overall economic activity have the potential to affect the total amount of money circulating within society. This study seeks to understand how macroeconomic factors, including inflation, exchange rates, and investment, influence the quantity of money in circulation within the Chinese region. Sample selection for this research utilized a non-probability sampling approach, specifically employing the purposive sampling method. This method was employed to gather data spanning from 1981 to 2021, resulting in a time series data format with a total of 41 observations. The data was sourced from reputable institutions, including the World Bank, IMF, and PBOC. The research methodology used was the Error Correction Model (ECM) with the assistance of STATA 12 software. The findings from this study indicate that both in the long and short terms, the inflation variable has a significant negative impact on the amount of money in circulation in China. On the other hand, the influence of the exchange rate variable on the amount of money in circulation in China demonstrates an intriguing dynamic. In the long term, the exchange rate is negatively and significantly associated with the amount of money in circulation, while in the short term, this relationship becomes positive and significant. Furthermore, concerning the investment variable, it was found that investment has a significant positive influence on the amount of money in circulation in China, both in the long and short terms. Keywords: money supply, inflation, exchange rate, investment.
