Abstract

Obesity is an imbalance between energy intake &expenditure. The lipase enzyme is a target in obesity treatment strategies because it is crucial to the process of fat metabolism. For many years, people have utilized the jombang herb as an alternative medicine. Phenolics, flavonoids, terpenoids, & alkaloids make up the majority of the secondary metabolites found in jombang plants. This study aims to determine the activity and potential for inhibition of lipase enzymes in vitro by jombang leaves (Taraxacum officinale F.H. Wigg.). The inhibitory activity of 50% and 96% ethanol extracts of jombang leaves and orlistat as positive controls was measured by the titration method using olive oil as a substrate. The concentration of the extract used was 125 ppm, 250 ppm and 500 ppm. For the 50% ethanol extract, the total phenolic and flavonoid content were found to be 29.62 mgGAE/g and 16.3 mgRE/g, respectively, whereas they were 12.69 mgGAE/g and 10.1667 mgRE/g for the 96% ethanol extract. The maximum percentage of inhibition was 142.31% for a 50% ethanol extract at a concentration of 500 ppm, and it was 103.85% for a 96% ethanol extract at the same concentration. The percentage of inhibition resulting from the use of the two solvents showed no significant difference (Sig>0,05).
