Abstract

The finishing process of Hex Nut M8 at PT.X still uses a conventional method, which is manual sanding. Considering the quantity of Hex Nut M8 orders, which is 150,000 pcs, with a surface roughness level of 1.5 µm and a working time of 40 business days, an auxiliary tool is certainly needed for the finishing process of Hex Nut M8. This research resulted in the design of a Rotary Barrel Mass Finishing Machine with dimensions of 59cmx30cmx30cm and a capacity of 25 liters, powered by a 0.75 kW motor. It utilizes Silica Sand as the abrasive media. The finishing process using the designed Rotary Barrel Mass Finishing Machine takes 1 hour, achieving a surface roughness level of 1.149 µm for Hex Nut M8. The quantity of finished Hex Nut M8 pieces is 4,000 pcs per day, fulfilling the order requirements for Hex Nut M8.
