Abstract
The number of parents who choose to work to meet household needs, has an impact on children who feel a lack of love and attention from parents. Different opinions or views between parents and children often lead to cognitive dissonance. This study aims to determine the effect of cognitive dissonance on the motivation of adolescents who have working parents in choosing good friends. Cognitive dissonance theory is used as a theory in this study as a reference in knowing the influence of adolescent motivation to choose good friends. The method used is explanatory quantitative using primary data sources in the form of questionnaires from 100 respondents and secondary data, namely the dasawisma population list and the crime rate that occurs in Menteng Dalam Village. The results showed that there was a significant influence between variable x with the highest significance of 79.75% in the dimension of motivation to reduce tension and variable y with the highest significance of 84% in the dimension of positive behavior, but the closeness of the variables was in the low category, namely 0.364. When there is an increase in the X and Y variables, the increase has a positive effect. Keywords: Cognitive dissonance, adolescents, parents, motivation, good friends
