Abstract

The variation of bow shape is principled to reduce the amount of resistance caused by friction between the fluid and the body of the submarine. Many innovations and experiments on changing the shape of the bow of the ship to get the smallest resistance to optimize the motion of the submarine. The purpose of this research is to identify the influence between the KS-22 model with several bow variations while maintaining the LOA of KS-22 and the diameter of the pressure hull. In addition, this research also identifies the ship's motion that occurs on the surface state. This research uses the CFD method in finding the obstacles that occur, by varying 3 models, namely changing the bow angle to be small while maintaining displacement, changing the bow angle to be larger while maintaining displacement, changing the angle to be smaller, and changing the amount of displacement. The results of this study reveal that changing the angle to be smaller and changing the amount of displacement is the bow model with the lowest average total drag. However, the ship's motion that occurs in each model reveals that the smallest pitch, roll, and heave motion occurs in the variation model with a bow change by shrinking the angle and changing the displacement. This study concludes that a decrease in bow angle and displacement changes greatly affect drag reduction. And in line with the response received by the ship with reduced resistance. Thus, this research can provide an understanding of the change in bow ratio and become material in the development of submarine bow.
