Abstract
Background: Smartphones are an ideal communication tool for exchanging information and have long been a part of human life which is always experiencing developments in functions, one of which is to entertain oneself by playing online games. Gradually humans become dependent on smartphones and unable to control themselves. This is what is called addiction. When playing a smartphone, someone who is addicted tends to maintain a downward (static) position and is exposed to radiation which causes continuous pressure on the cranial muscles and the muscles around the head and shoulders also become tense and then vasoconstriction occurs so that oxygen intake is reduced which causes pain. Pain impulses are distributed to the cerebral cortex by the trigeminal nerve and cervical nerves 1-3 and then tension-type headaches are at risk of appearing. This can hinder activities because of uncomfortable feelings in the head. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of smartphone addiction and the risk of tension type headaches in the UPN Veteran Jakarta mobile legend esport team. Methods: The method used for this study is correlational quantitative with a cross sectional approach with the Spearman's Rho correlation test. The sample size used was 95 respondents, the measuring instrument used was the Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Version questionnaire to see the level of smartphone addiction and the Headache Screening Questionnaire questionnaire to assess tension type headache complaints. Results: The correlation test used was Spearman's Rho and obtained p = 0.000 and the correlation coefficient p = 0.454. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of smartphone addiction and the risk of tension type headaches in the UPN Veteran Jakarta mobile legend esport team.
