Abstract

The open unemployment rate (TPT) for provinces on the island of Sumatra in 2010-2020 as a whole has decreased, but there are still several provinces with higher unemployment rates compared to the national unemployment rate. This indicates the low productivity of the community due to not getting a job. This study aims to determine several factors that can affect the level of open unemployment. This study uses the independent variables, namely population, provincial minimum wage, GRDP growth rate and human development index in each province on Sumatra Island from 2010 to 2020 to see the effect on the open unemployment rate. The technique used for sample collection in this study used a saturated sampling technique in 10 provinces in the 2010-2020 period, with a total sample of 110 data sourced from the UPNVJ digital economics laboratory. The analytical method used in this research is panel data analysis using the Fixed Effect Model approach. The results of this study show that the population has a positive effect, the GRDP growth rate and the human development index have a negative effect, but the provincial minimum wage has no effect on the open unemployment rate.
