Abstract

According to data from UNICEF in 2020, the highest number of child marriages is in West Africa and Central Africa. The highest early marriage occurs in Sub-Saharan Africa with the percentage of Niger 76%, Central African Republic 68%, and Chad 67% (data as of March 2020) 41% Girls marry before they are 18 years old. High early marriage rates encourage girls to drop out of school because they will focus on taking care of their families. In addition, the existence of early marriage makes girls at an early age unable to maximize their potential in the political, social, and economic fields. Poverty, early marriage, and low education are factors that cause the low quality of children and mothers in Niger. UNICEF as an international organization engaged in the empowerment of children and mothers provides several efforts as a form of improving the quality of life of children and mothers in Niger. This study aims to provide readers with an overview of the assistance provided by UNICEF in improving maternal and child health in Niger for the 2018-2020 period. The research method used by the author is descriptive qualitative. And using primary data in the form of the UNICEF annual report. data collection techniques using library research techniques. The final result of this study states that UNICEF uses 5 programs to improve the quality of maternal and child health in Niger, namely: Kangoroo Mother Care, iCCM, Vaccination, IYCF, and WASH programs.
