Abstract

Indonesian Red Cross Blood Donor Unit (IRC BDU) is one of the health facilities that utilizes human blood as means of healing and recovery of disease. In the process of supplying blood, BDU produces hazardous and toxic infectious medical waste that requires special handling to prevent infection transmission. This study aims to determine the suitability of the implementation of internal medical waste management with Permenkes No. 7 of 2019 and Permenkes No. 18 of 2020. This study used a descriptive study design with a qualitative approach which is carried out using in-depth interviews, observation, and document review methods. The results indicate that there is still a discrepancy in the implementation of toxic and hazardous waste management with applicable regulations, namely in the aspects of Standard Operating Procedures, Human Resources, Facilities and Infrastructure, transportation, Temporary storage, as well as recording and reporting where the main problem is in the socialization of SOPs to officers. Researchers suggest that IRC BDU provides scheduled SOP socialization related to the entire process of medical waste management activities in accordance with applicable standards.
