Abstract

Sexual violence is one of the many forms of violence that women are vulnerable to. However, in its handling, women victims of sexual violence are still vulnerable to secondary victimization due to the negative response from the police. This causes women victims to be reluctant to report the sexual violence they experience and makes sexual violence to be an iceberg phenomenon. This study aims to identify and examine forms of protection for women victims of sexual violence from secondary victimization and the government's efforts to implement this protection. The research method used is normative legal research using secondary data. The results shows that the form of protection for women victims of sexual violence from secondary victimization is contained in several Laws, yet they have not fully accommodated this protection. In addition, this protection is also contained in several Regulations of the Chief of the Police of the Republic of Indonesia. Even so, the implementation from the police is still lacking. The government's efforts to implement this protection are through the Crime of Sexual Violence Law (UU TPKS), then the police also need to make efforts to increase the capacity of police members with trainings and gender studies for handling cases of sexual violence.
