Abstract

This research aims to formulate on how to apply the right carbon tax to reduce the amount of carbon emissions in Indonesia and overcome the problem of climate change that is happening around the world. This research also compares other countries carbon tax, like Finland, Japan, Ethiopia and other countries with Indonesia's carbon tax. This research is a type of normative juridical research using a statutory, comparative, and conceptual approach. The results of this study indicate that the application of a carbon tax can be carried out in the coal power plant sector first, and other sectors such as the transportation sector after. However, the minimum carbon tax rate that has been approved by the Government of Indonesia of Rp. 30 is still too low. This rate has to be raised for the carbon tax to work. The appropriate tariffs for Indonesia’s carbon tax can be done by adjusting the rate to IMF’s recommendation so that Indonesia can achieve the target agreed in the Paris agreement.
