Abstract

Replacing the wheel rim (rim) which usually uses aluminum alloy using a lighter material, namely carbon fiber is one of the innovations that can be applied to achieve the goal of the Soediman II car, which is to become a car that has high fuel efficiency. This method is expected to reduce the total mass of the car as much as possible so that the drag forces that occur on the car when accelerating can be reduced. Determination of the design is carried out with the design requirements that have been determined, including taking into account the competition regulations and taking into account the forces acting on Soedirman II. The wheel rim model is wheel disc model so that the stress can be distributed properly and has the best aerodynamic. Wheel rim is designed with 16 sheets of carbon fiber prepreg with a 45º angle variation resulting in a wheel rim mass of 0.61942 kg. The final design produces a product that is 80% lighter than the previous design and can reduce 5.72% of the total mass of the Sudirman II vehicle with a safety factor of 4.45.
