Abstract
Adolescents are often dissatisfied with their own bodies. These can result from constant changes in their body during puberty. Dissatisfaction is strongly associated with the comparison of self with others or social comparison. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between social comparison and body dissatisfaction of senior high school students in SMA Negeri 13 Depok. This study's research design is descriptive analytics with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this research is as many as 209 students obtained using a stratified random sampling technique. The research instruments used were the Physical Appearance Comparison Scale-Revised (PACS-R), and Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Questionnaire-4-Revised (SATAQ-4R). The results of the analysis using Pearson Product Moment showed that there is a relationship between social comparison and body dissatisfaction from the sociocultural environment in female students with a correlation coefficient of 0.757 with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), and there was no relationship in male students with a correlation coefficient of 0.193 with a significance value of 0.124 (p>0.05). While girls continue to have higher levels of body dissatisfaction than boys, the negative impact of social comparison on adolescents' body satisfaction does not appear to differ by sex.
