Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and understand the policies and efforts of the Indonesian government in tackling the problem of child marriage at the domestic level for the 2017-2020 period using international organization theory, role theory, and the concept of child marriage. The method used is descriptive qualitative which aims to explore the meaning that for several individuals or groups is judged to be rooted in social and humanitarian problems. Regarding data sources, the author uses primary data sources and secondary data by submitting requests for interviews to related institutions and observing various documents and audiovisual materials. In addition, the author uses four stages of data analysis according to Miles & Huberman, which consist of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The final result of this study shows that the role of UNICEF in dealing with child marriage problems in Indonesia from 2017 to 2020 is shown in 7 categories. Four of which are providing information and knowledge about the situation of child marriage in Indonesia, advocating for policies and laws that can improve the realization of handling child marriage problems, introducing new initiatives and innovations to address challenges that affect child marriage problems, and providing technical assistance to partners to improve quality of social services for children. In addition, UNICEF also partners with local governments to ensure that resources are adequately utilized to meet the needs of hard-to-reach children and women, create spaces for children and youth to express their thoughts and take part in the development process, and build and strengthen collaboration and networking for the benefit of children.
