Abstract
The Arafura Sea with its diversity of sea creatures and beauty is one of the most sought after by other countries, in addition to the fact that this sea is opposite to other countries. Due to the diversity of sea creatures in the Arafura Sea, many countries are willing to take illegal actions in this sea, which makes Indonesia faced with cases that are usually faced as a country with the largest archipelagic state in the world, namely Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (IUU Fishing). This case makes local Indonesian fishermen feel at a loss by reducing their catch in their own country. One of the seas that are prone to be visited by foreign fishermen is the Arafura Sea. With various considerations, which Indonesia felt was necessary with an organization or at least a forum for further discussion, Indonesia and Australia finally created a forum or action plan which is called the Regional Plan of Action (RPOA). This RPOA aims to create awareness for the member countries to respect each other's sovereign territory and carry out responsible fishing. Besides that, cooperation is also needed, Indonesia and Australia have gone through various kinds of diplomacy and cooperation. The two countries have collaborated in dealing with IUU fishing that occurred in the Arafura Sea region. This study aims to determine whether this collaboration has reduced the occurrence of IUU fishing practices and the development of cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in overcoming IUU fishing practices that occur in the Arafura Sea. In this study, the author uses a qualitative approach and the type of descriptive research.
