Abstract
This study aims to determine the geopolitics of Ukraine and Eurasia before and after the annexation of Crimea that influenced the security architecture of Eurasia and the Black Sea region as well as the contestation strategies of the two countries in which Ukraine and the West 2014-2019 period which blocked the influence of Russia's accession in the Black Sea and Eurasia and Russia blocked the former part of the Soviet Union to remain in Moscow's control. Ukraine's political turmoil continued to roll after Ukraine's independence from the Soviet Union, Ukraine, which is a country divided into two political poles between West and East, became an arena of competition and a buffer for the great powers of the cold war, namely the West (European Union, US, and NATO) and East (Russia). The occurrence of a referendum in Crimea has become a debate for Ukraine, whose geopolitics are pro-Western and Western major powers who consider this case an annexation, especially concerns that Russia always wants to have influence on its former colonies having interests in the Crimea region, making a geopolitical and geostrategy contestation between Ukraine is assisted by major Western powers with Russia. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a technique of validating source triangulation which will describe the contestation concept with the theories of geopolitics and geostrategy of the two countries through containment policies using political tactics, psychology, proxy, embargo, information, politics, and military deterrence strategies which results in a crisis of trust between Ukraine, the West and Russia which makes this conflict a deadlock.
