Abstract

Chassis has a very important role to build a vehicle, one of its important roles is to support driving stability in the vehicle, but basically not only support these factors, the strength of the chassis is also determined by the material used, the chassis must also be determined by the thickness of the material to be able to withstand a crucial impact load in various conditions such as collisions, one of the light vehicles that has an open design such as a naked car is the sandrail buggy. The car can be said to be a car that has agility in maneuvering off-road terrain, the chassis on the car is one example where the strength of the chassis is relied on in this vehicle, because in the event of a fatal accident the role of the chassis is very much needed. Therefore the chassis frame components are very important to be used as further research on this vehicle. The vehicle component that will be discussed in this thesis is a tubular chassis on a sandrail buggy by testing variations of materials such as low carbon mild steel, aluminum 6063 and aluminum 3003 in thicknesses of 10 mm, 0.75 mm and 0.5 mm using the finite element method in order to see the chassis results. the strongest to be used as a further race vehicle. The chassis will be combined with large engine power and abundant torque to see how big the power weight ratio is when using the engine.
