Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the volume fraction of teki grass, and variations in the melting temperature of HDPE plastic on the optimal tensile strength, bending strength and impact with the composition of teki grass: 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% and temperature variations. melting at 150°C, 165°C and 180°C for 2 hours. Teki grass has collenchyma network, this makes the grass have good fiber strength as a reinforcement for composite materials. The manufacture of this composite material is made using teki grass fiber reinforcement with a matrix in the form of HDPE plastic as a binder polymer that is made so that it will increase the strength of the composite from the teki grass made. The process of making this composite material is done by hand lay-up method. Then the teki grass fiber reinforced composite was cut according to the ASTM D368 standard reference for tensile test specimens, ASTM D790 standard for bending test specimens and ASTM D256 standard for impact test specimens. Based on the results of all tests, it can be seen that HDPE 97.5% 180°C has the largest stress value in the tensile test of 23,540 Mpa, while for bending testing HDPE 97.5% 180°C has the greatest bending stress value of 37.498 Mpa and for testing impact HDPE 90% 180°C has an impact energy value of 4.0084 joules.
